Camp Cooking: Baked Apple Pie

In this video I share how I bake Apple Pie when camping and just out and about in the woods.

Equipment used for the improvised oven in this video is a Pathfinder Bushpot on a Gen2 Firebox Nano and a Trangia Alcohol Stove.

Prep and cook time: Approx. 1 hour

Pasty Dough Recipe:

3/4 Cup All Purpose Flour
1 Pinch Salt
1/2 Teaspoon White Sugar
1/4 Cup Butter
Cold water to desired consistency (Approx 2-3 Tablespoons)

Filling Recipe:
1 Diced Apple
2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4-1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 Pinch Salt

Boil filling mix until apples are of desired texture. While the filling is boiling, mix the dough and fill the pie containers with a thin layer of dough mix and set aside to rest while the filling is finishing cooking. When the filling is done, bake the dough in your improvised oven until golden brown. Fill containers with the cooked filling mix and place a thin layer of the left over dough on top. Bake until the top is golden brown and the mix is thick and bubbling over at the top seam.
